2017 Solar Eclipse

About a week or two after moving back to Illinois from Louisville, KY, on August 21st, 2017 one of the largest events in the US in 2017 occurred right through Illinois. The solar eclipse. Some were convinced that this wasn’t a huge deal – but I have NOOOO idea how these people made those decisions.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I jumped in the car with my parents and drove to Southern Illinois (just South of Carbondale) and set up camp at a local winery – Starview Vineyards. It was ideal for everything besides the perfect name:

  1. Fresh wine whenever you wanted
  2. Food and meals cooked to order
  3. Space to see the eclipse
  4. Not well known, so it wasn’t crowded

We met up with my brother and his girlfriend there and started setting up our gear. I googled loads of things about how to photograph the eclipse – all to which I didn’t pay attention to. The best trick I tried though was removing the film from the solar eclipse glasses and taping it to my lens (however, my father decided to format that card afterwards, so those images are lost). But even with my bare camera, I was able to capture this whole experience
